Clicking in manual while driving?

hello i just got an 87 ford bronco and the guy told me fith gear was out. while i drive it 1st through 4th i makes a clickiing noise, and also gets stuck and dont want to go forward. but when this happens i just reverse and all is good agian but with clicking noice. is this just chucks of the gear? am i able to take the pan off and just get the gear out. or do i need a new . anything would help thanks.
