Son's pediatrician told me to retract the foreskin of my baby's uncircised ?
Hi, I am a Northern American who is currently living in Venezuela where my husband is from. We had our son here one year ago and because my husband is uncircised and also because of our personal choice, we decided not to have our baby circised. Well, because I have absolutely NO experience with an uncircised and how to take care of one, I of course follow the advice of friends here, family (my husband's family as all the male members on my side are circised) and more importantly my son's pediatrician. ok, so he has told me since month 1 to begin soft, painless stretches to the foreskin to help it retract because if we don't ''help' it, it could get stuck and need to be separated by a simple surgery (AKA a circision I'm uming?) when he is a few years older. This happened to a friend of mine here (her son needed a circision because his foreskin never retracted on its own). My son has never ONCE seemed to mind these little stretches (pulling the skin in a gentle circular motion) and the Dr. also gave me a steroid cream to help loosen the foreskin. Well, one day while I was gently cleaning his parts it just popped and out came the . My son never blinked nor cried so I'm uming it was totally pain free. Well, a week ago I read something online about never retracting the foreskin as it can cause infection or tears and of course my heart starts pounding wondering if I have damaged my poor little guy forever (although there is no physical showing of this). I state my concerns to my mother in law and she ures me that it is normal and that it needs to be done so it doesn't get stuck. ?? She has 4 sons who are all uncircised and have never had problems. So, my son had his yearly appointment this past Monday and I asked the doc about all of this. He tells me that I need to continue with the exercises because there is still a little that needs to come down! I am so confused and am not comfortable with this after reading all that I have read. But he ured me that if I don't then he may wind up needing a circision in the future. I am so confused..please tell me someone has had a similar experience or give me some advice...and I know that I may get many comments regarding needing to switch Dr's but keep in mind that I am currently living in a country where 98% of the men are uncircised so the chance of finding a Dr. who says different is slim to none. I'm so confused and have no one to give me other opinions here as everyone agrees with the Dr.
